A remanufactured HP 64XL ink cartridge is a previously used cartridge that has been professionally processed for reuse. The cartridge is cleaned, inspected, refilled, assembled, and tested before shipment rather than being manufactured as an entirely new replacement cartridge.
The retained OEM chip supports cartridge-status and ink-level information after successful installation in supported U.S.-market printers. Printer firmware, sales region, printer condition, electrical contact, and cartridge seating can still affect recognition or displayed ink information, so no replacement cartridge should be described as guaranteed to work with every firmware version.

Proper storage helps protect the cartridge, electrical contacts, and ink before installation. If you are keeping a spare HP 64XL cartridge for later use, leave it sealed until you are ready to install it.
For long-term storage, an unopened cartridge in its original packaging is preferable to storing an opened cartridge outside the printer.
